The Effects of Chronic Illness on Families

There are many issues that families deal with in addition to the ongoing special medical, physical and emotional needs of the ill child. Grief, stress, acceptance and a “new normal” are a few of these. In addition, one child’s illness affects other children in the family, the couple and extended family and friends.

This lecture will touch on many of these issues and suggest possible resources for:
- Medical Professionals
- Social Workers
- Anyone dealing with families where a child is chronically ill

Workshops / Presentations

Coping Skills for Families with Chronic Illness

After an overview of the issues that families face when a child has a chronic illness, we will look at the coping skills needed and resources available.

This workshop is for:
- Parent support groups for families with chronic illness of any kind
- Social Work and other therapy professionals

Writing as a Righting Journey

In a day or weekend workshop I can present writing exercises for either parents of children with ongoing health issues, or teens who live with chronic health issues. The workshop would include discussion and opportunity for sharing some of the participant’s written work.
